In brief

FR Skates Metal Wheels white 72 mm / 85A is a set of 4 wheels with a CNC-milled aluminium core instead of a plastic hub. The stiff core transfers push-off without loss and does not deform on tricks, and the 85A polyurethane grips on asphalt. For freeride, freestyle, slalom and technical training. The recommended spacers are 10.10 mm.

Who it’s for

  • You skate freestyle or slalom or train technique and want wheels that respond without delay.
  • You jump and do tricks in freeride, so a core that does not twist under load matters to you.
  • You have skates with a frame for 72 mm and are looking for a more durable alternative to wheels with a plastic hub.

When to choose something else

  • You mainly want to hold your speed on longer routes — a larger diameter will be better, e.g. Metal Wheels 84 mm.

Key features

CNC-milled aluminium core
It is stiffer than a plastic hub, so the wheel does not twist or deform, and the push-off energy goes into rolling.
85A hardness
An all-round hardness for city skating: it grips on asphalt and wears slowly in intensive skating.
72 mm diameter
A small wheel changes direction quickly, which helps in slalom and technical training.
Slight weight gain
The aluminium core is light, so the wheel weighs only marginally more than models with a classic hub.
Durability on tricks
The hard core and 85A polyurethane withstand intensive freeride and tricks for longer than wheels with a plastic hub.

Care and servicing

The wheels wear mainly on the inner edge. Every so often, swap their positions and flip them to the other side so that they wear evenly.

Questions and answers

What does an aluminium core give me?

Stiffness. A CNC-milled core does not twist or deform, so push-off force goes into rolling without loss, and the wheel guides more precisely.

Does a metal core make the wheels heavy?

No. Aluminium is light and the core is precisely milled, so the weight is only marginally greater than for wheels with a classic hub.

Isn’t 85A too hard for the city?

No. 85A is an all-round hardness for city skating: it grips on asphalt and wears slowly.

Which spacers should I use?

Precision 10.10 mm — this width is recommended so that the bearings sit well in the aluminium core. We can match them as part of the service “Measuring skate wheel cores and matching spacers”.

Are 4 wheels enough for a pair of skates?

No. 4 wheels are a set for one four-wheel skate, so for a pair you need two sets.
