In brief

Precision tightening of axles and bolts on skates is a Bogdanca service: with an electronic torque wrench accurate to 0.01 Nm we tighten the wheel axles, the bolts holding the frame, the buckles and the sliders. Axles get 2.0–3.5 Nm and a drop of blue Loctite, aluminium frame bolts 4.9–5.4 Nm. You bring the skates to the shop or send them in.

Who it’s for

  • You are buying new skates from us, or a custom build made to order, and want to receive them with every bolt tightened to the right force.
  • You skate hard and notice that the axles or frame bolts like to work loose.
  • You are getting ready for a competition or a long route, for example a marathon, and want to be sure nothing comes undone on the way.
  • You have used skates and no torque wrench — you bring them to the shop or send them to the service.

When to choose something else

  • The thread on your axles or bolts is damaged — tightening alone will not help; you will find new parts in the spacers and axles category.

Key features

Torque wrench accurate to 0.01 Nm
Each bolt gets a set torque instead of being tightened “by feel”, so it is neither left too loose nor overtightened.
Force matched to the bolt
Delicate screws are tightened lightly so that they are not damaged and can be undone later, and those exposed to vibration more firmly, so that they do not come loose while you skate.
Blue Loctite on the axles
The thread-locking adhesive protects the axle from loosening by itself, and you can still undo it later with an ordinary wrench.
Every joint on the skate
We check the wheel axles, the bolts fixing the frame to the boot, the buckles, the sliders and the remaining bolts, not just one group.
New, custom and used skates
You choose the service when buying skates, for a custom build made to order, or separately — then you bring or send in your own skates.

Care and servicing

Between service visits, glance at the axles every few hard skates. If one sticks out more than the others or a wheel has side-to-side play, do not carry on skating — tighten the joint.

Questions and answers

What force do you tighten the axles with?

Usually 2.0–3.5 Nm, in line with the recommendations for freeskate, speed, fitness and urban skates. Aluminium bolts fixing the frame to the boot get 4.9–5.4 Nm, and the remaining bolts a torque that depends on their material and on what they fasten.

Do you lock the threads with adhesive?

Yes. We put a drop of blue Loctite on the axles, which protects the joint from loosening by itself.

Can I send in used skates?

Yes. You order the service separately and either send the skates in or bring them to our shop in Poznań or Wrocław. After the service we send them back ready to skate.

How often should I tighten the bolts on my skates?

Every few hard skates, and without fail before competitions and longer routes, for example a marathon.

Can the service be added to new skates?

Yes. You choose it when buying skates in our shop or for a custom build made to order.
