Hockey or figure
Choose the type you eventually want to skate on: hockey skates are agile and fast, figure skates more stable front to back.
| Feature | Hockey | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| Blade | shorter, rounded at the ends | longer, with toe picks at the front |
| Boot | lower, stiff | higher cuff, heel |
| Strength | quick turns and hockey stops | edges, skating backwards, spins |
| At the start | easier to lose balance backwards | toe picks can catch on the ice |
For children whose feet are growing there are adjustable skates.
Size
Ice skates are chosen by foot length, and their size comes out smaller than your shoes — in hockey skates usually by 1–1.5 sizes. Your toes should lightly touch the toe cap when you stand straight and move away from it when you bend your knees. More in the guide how to choose ice skates.
Sharpening before the first skate
New skates aren’t sharpened for use: the blade has no hollow, so the edges don’t grip the ice. Skate sharpening on ProSharp machines costs from 29.99 PLN a pair. You can add it to your basket with the skates — they’ll arrive ready to skate.

Frequently asked questions
Do new skates need sharpening?
Yes. A factory blade has no usable hollow, so the first sharpening is essential before you go on the ice.
Which skates to start with: hockey or figure?
Both are suitable. Figure skates are more stable thanks to a longer blade, hockey skates more agile; choose the ones you want to skate on later.
What size ice skates should I choose?
Smaller than your shoes, in hockey skates usually by 1–1.5 sizes. The surest way is to measure your foot and compare the result with the length given for the size.
How much does skate sharpening cost?
From 29.99 PLN a pair, on ProSharp machines. A Z channel costs an extra 40 PLN, blade profiling 60 PLN.
Do you sharpen skates by post?
Yes. You order the service in the online shop, send us your skates and we send them back sharpened.
