In brief

The Rollerblade Comet Ice in black/blue are adjustable kids' ice skates for learning and recreation. The two-part moulded boot has a warm nylex lining, a top buckle with a lock, a 45° velcro strap and Speed Lace quick lacing. The stainless steel blade has a hockey profile. You choose the insole length range on the product page, and the boot length is adjustable within it. They need a first sharpening.

Who it’s for

  • You are buying your child's first skates and don't want to replace them every winter — the boot length is adjustable.
  • Your child already skates and needs skates for the ice rink, lessons and longer outings on the ice.
  • You care about warmth and quick fastening in the changing room: buckle, velcro strap and Speed Lace instead of long lacing.

When to choose something else

  • Your child is starting figure skating training — that needs a blade with toe picks; see figure skates.
  • You are looking for skates for club hockey training — this is a recreational model.

Key features

Adjustable boot length
The manufacturer gives a range of four sizes in one pair, so the skates grow with the foot.
Two-part, moulded seamless boot
It adapts to the foot and supports the ankle; no seams means fewer places that can rub.
Warm nylex lining
A soft, brushed fabric keeps the warmth in during a longer time on the ice.
Buckle with lock, 45° strap and Speed Lace
The velcro strap stabilises the heel, the buckle closes the cuff, and the quick lacing tightens in one move.
Stainless steel blade with a hockey profile
Manoeuvrable and without toe picks at the front, so your child doesn't catch the toe on the ice.

Choosing your size

The Comet Ice is adjustable: a size is an insole length range, e.g. 185–210 mm (EU 29–34) or 205–235 mm (EU 32–37). You choose the range on the product page.

Measure your child's foot in millimetres — heel against a wall, a mark at the end of the longest toe — and use the longer foot.

Choose the range in which the foot falls in the lower half: that leaves room to grow and the skates will last longer. The ranges overlap, so for a foot of 205–210 mm take the larger one (205–235 mm).

Try them on in the sock your child will skate in.

Measure your foot in millimetres (heel against the wall, to the tip of your longest toe) and choose an insole equal to that length or 2–5 mm longer. Full measuring guide

Care and servicing

After skating, dry the blades with a cloth and dry the boot at room temperature, away from a radiator. Plastic blade guards are only for walking from the changing room to the ice — a wet blade kept in them rusts.

Questions and answers

Do the Comet Ice need sharpening before the first skate?

Yes. New skates are not sharpened at the factory. You can add the service to your order: ice skate sharpening.

Which range should I choose?

The one in which your child's foot falls in the lower half. For example, a 190 mm foot fits the 185–210 mm range, and a 208 mm foot already fits 205–235 mm, because the smaller range leaves no room to grow.

How long will they last?

One pair has 25–30 mm of insole length adjustment; the manufacturer describes this as four sizes. With a well-chosen range that is usually more than one winter.

Is a hockey blade good for learning?

Yes. It has no toe picks at the front, so your child doesn't trip on the tip of the skate, and the hockey profile makes turning easier.
