In brief

They have a 3D injected boot with a stiffness (flex) of 115, HD microfibre lining with EVA foam, a 7 mm felt tongue and a non-replaceable steel CCM Speedblade blade. Who it’s for

  • You skate for pleasure — on the rink, on a lake, sometimes a game with friends on a pond.
  • You are looking for hockey skates with a softly padded interior and cushions around the ankle.
  • You prefer to choose the size by measured foot length — hockey skate sizing differs from shoe sizing.

When to choose something else

  • You train in a club or play in a league — this is a recreational model with a non-replaceable blade; see other hockey skates.

Key features

3D injected boot
Shaped to the foot; the textured surface increases the durability of the boot.
Stiffness (flex) 115
Gives stability in the ankle for recreational skating and playing for fun.
HD lining with EVA foam
Abrasion-resistant microfibre, an extra layer of foam and soft cushions around the ankle reduce pressure in a new boot.
7 mm felt tongue
Thick felt with a foam layer spreads the pressure of the laces across the instep.
CCM Speedblade blade on a raised holder
Steel, non-replaceable. The higher holder lets you lean the skate further in a turn.
Lightweight CCM insole
Designed for comfort and low weight.

Choosing your size

CCM sizes are given as a CCM and an EU number; for example, CCM 7 corresponds to EU 42 and a foot length of 26 cm.

Hockey skate sizing differs from shoe sizing, so choose by foot length. Measure it in centimetres: heel against a wall, a sheet of paper on the floor, a mark at the end of the longest toe; use the longer foot.

If no size matches the length of your foot, the skate won't hold your heel — it is better to look for another model among hockey skates.

Measure your foot in millimetres (heel against the wall, to the tip of your longest toe) and choose an insole equal to that length or 2–5 mm longer. Full measuring guide

Care and servicing

After skating, dry the blades with a cloth and dry the boot at room temperature, away from a radiator. Plastic blade guards are only for walking from the changing room to the ice — a wet blade kept in them rusts.

Questions and answers

Do the CCM Next need sharpening before skating?

Yes. New skates need a first sharpening before going on the ice. You can add the service to your order: ice skate sharpening.

How do I convert a CCM size to centimetres?

Choose by foot length in centimetres. For example, size CCM 7 is a 26 cm foot and EU number 42.

Can the blade be replaced?

No. The steel CCM Speedblade is non-replaceable — when it gets blunt, you take it for sharpening.

How do the CCM Next differ from the Tacks AS-550?

Mainly in the interior. The Next has a 7 mm felt tongue and extra EVA foam with cushions around the ankle, the AS-550 a 5 mm tongue. Both models have a stiffness of 115 and a non-replaceable Speedblade blade.

Are they suitable for a frozen pond?

Yes. The manufacturer intends them for skating on a rink and on a lake, and for playing hockey on a pond. On natural ice the blade blunts faster, so sharpen it more often.
