In brief

The FR Skates FR1 80 are freeskate skates for intermediate and advanced skaters, with a very stiff shell and a milled 4D aluminium 243 mm frame. They run on FR Street Invaders II 80 mm / 84A wheels and FR Twincam MW9 Titalium Freeride bearings that can be taken apart. The cuff can be set in four positions, and the frame slides on plates with seven holes.

Who it’s for

  • You skate hard around town: you jump, slide and need a boot that will take it.
  • You train slalom or technique and want to set up the frame and cuff to suit you.
  • You tend towards pronation or supination — adjusting the cuff angle (canting) helps set your leg straight.

When to choose something else

  • You are taking your first steps on skates — you don't need such extensive adjustments yet. See skates for beginners.
  • You skate calmly on long routes along paths — fitness skates will be more comfortable.

Key features

Stiff shell with replaceable sliders
Impact-resistant; the sliders and guards take the scuffs and are replaced without touching the rest of the boot.
Cuff adjustable in 4 positions
You set the height and tilt angle of the cuff (canting), which helps with pronation and supination.
Aluminium plates with 7 holes
You slide the frame forwards–backwards and sideways, matching the centre of gravity to your style of skating.
Milled 4D frame 243 mm
Short and stiff. The 165 mm mounting is compatible with other frames, including three-wheel ones.
Memory foam liner
Removable, anatomically shaped, laced all the way up — the foam adapts to the shape of the foot.
MW9 bearings that can be taken apart
The FR Twincam MW9 Titalium Freeride can be taken apart, cleaned and lubricated instead of replaced.

Choosing your size

The FR1 comes in single sizes, described by insole length in millimetres, e.g. 255 mm is EU 39 and 270 mm — EU 42. Measure your foot standing, from the heel to the end of the longest toe, and choose an insole equal to that length or a few millimetres longer.

The shell is very stiff and doesn't stretch; it is the memory foam liner that adapts to the foot. The liner settles in over time, so don't take a size with a lot of room.

We bring in some sizes to order from the manufacturer's warehouse — shipping then takes 3–5 working days.

Measure your foot in millimetres (heel against the wall, to the tip of your longest toe) and choose an insole equal to that length or 2–5 mm longer. Full measuring guide

Care and servicing

The MW9 bearings can be taken apart — after skating in the wet or in dust, take them apart, clean and lubricate them. Replace worn sliders and guards before the scuffing reaches the shell.

Questions and answers

Are the FR1 80 suitable for beginners?

Not really for the very start. This is a model for intermediate and advanced skaters who skate hard: they jump, slide and train slalom.

How does the FR1 differ from the FR2?

In the hardware. The FR1 has a metal clasp on the top buckle, Street Invaders II wheels, MW9 bearings and a milled 4D frame. The FR2 has Downtown wheels, MW7 bearings and an R2 frame with a switchable rocker. The shell with 7-hole plates is the same.

Can I fit a three-wheel frame?

Yes. The mounting has a 165 mm spacing and is compatible with other frames, including 3-wheel ones.

What is cuff adjustment for?

For setting its height and tilt angle in four positions: front, back, left, right. It helps to correct pronation or supination.

Are spare parts available for the FR1?

Yes. The skates are fully serviceable — all components are available as spare parts.
