The women’s version has a narrower heel and a lower cuff, because women’s calves usually start lower. Insole length in millimetres means the same as in men’s and unisex models, so you choose the size the same way: by foot length.
The split into women’s and men’s mainly applies to fitness skates with a soft boot. Manufacturers usually make hard-shell urban skates as unisex, on one shell across the full size range. That’s why we show them here together with the women’s models.
Start with where you’ll skate, not with the “women’s” label:
With a narrow foot, pay attention to the instep closure (a 45° buckle or a strap), because that’s what pulls the heel back. With a wide foot in a small size, a unisex model is sometimes more comfortable than a women’s one.
In many hard-boot skates one shell covers two neighbouring sizes, and the fit is adjusted with a spacer under the insole. Set it so that your heel doesn’t lift when you bend your knees. If you can’t find a size for a short foot, also check adjustable kids’ and junior skates — their insole range is given in millimetres.
Yes. Most hard-boot urban skates are built on one shell for everyone, and the fit depends on the length and width of your foot.
A narrower heel, a lower cuff and the colours. Insole size in millimetres means the same foot length in both versions.
Look for a 240–245 mm insole. The EU size for this length varies between brands, so go by millimetres.
It often helps, but it isn’t essential. What matters more is that the instep closure pulls the heel back and that the boot isn’t too long.
