In brief

The grey/yellow Rollerblade Apex are kids' skates with a hard, ventilated shell and adjustment across four sizes. They have a 3WD/4WD aluminium frame, 80A wheels 68, 72 or 76 mm in diameter (depending on size) and SG7 bearings. You choose the size range on the product page. A brake is included, for self-fitting.

Who it’s for

  • Your child skates regularly — around town, in the playground by the school, in a skatepark — and needs a stiff boot rather than a soft upper.
  • You don't want to buy new skates every year: the boot lengthens by four sizes.
  • Your child is learning to skate and you care about firm ankle support from the very first lessons.

When to choose something else

  • The skates are for a few relaxed rides a season — the Rollerblade Microblade is enough.
  • Your child's foot is smaller than the smallest Apex range — smaller sizes are in the Microblade 3WD.

Key features

Apex hardboot shell
Moulded and ventilated. The stiff upper guides the ankle, so your child finds balance faster and pushes off more confidently.
Four sizes in one pair
You adjust the boot length to a growing foot instead of replacing the skates after a season.
Premium Junior liner and Jr Urban insole
A welded liner sole, extra padding and heel cushioning — less vibration on cobbles.
Buckle, 45° micro-buckle and laces
Three fastening points; the micro-buckle over the instep pulls the heel back into the boot.
Extruded aluminium frame
Stiff and resistant to knocks against kerbs. The 3WD/4WD design lets you skate on four or three wheels.
Side slider
A guard on the side of the shell takes the scuffs from falls and slides.

Choosing your size

An Apex size is an insole length range, e.g. 185–205 mm (EU 29–32), 210–230 mm (EU 33–36) or 235–255 mm (EU 37–40); you choose it on the product page.

Choose by foot length in millimetres, not by shoe number. Stand your child with the heel against a wall on a sheet of paper, mark the end of the longest toe and measure the distance; use the longer foot.

The foot should fall in the lower half of the range — that leaves room to grow and the skates last longer. If the foot is already near the upper limit, take the next range straight away or try both on in the shop.

Measure your foot in millimetres (heel against the wall, to the tip of your longest toe) and choose an insole equal to that length or 2–5 mm longer. Full measuring guide

In the box

  • A pair of Rollerblade Apex skates
  • A brake for self-fitting

Care and servicing

Every few weeks of skating, rotate the wheels between positions and swap sides — they wear on the inner edge. After skating in the wet, take out the bearings and dry them the same day.

Questions and answers

How do I choose the Apex size range?

By foot length in millimetres. Choose the range in which your child's foot falls in the lower half — for example, for a 215 mm foot, the 210–230 mm range.

Does the brake have to be fitted?

It doesn't have to be, but it is worth it while learning. The brake is included as an optional-fit part, so you can fit it at the start and remove it when your child has mastered other ways of stopping.

Are the Apex suitable as first skates?

Yes. A hard shell holds the ankle more firmly than a soft upper, so it is easier for your child to keep their balance. The manufacturer aims the model at both beginners and more advanced young skaters.

Is it the same skate as the platinum/coral Apex?

Yes. The versions differ only in colour — the shell, frame, wheels, bearings and size ranges are the same.

Which replacement wheels should I buy?

The same as the factory ones: 68 mm in the EU 29–32 range, 72 mm in EU 33–36 and 76 mm in EU 37–40, eight per pair. The factory ones are 80A.
